SUMMARY:Retirement to Adventure: Ethiopian adventures - Newmarket Public Library
DESCRIPTION:Adult Programs All ages $2.00 Multi Purpose Room Join Shirley Lewis, Executive Director of CHEER (Children of Ethiopia Education Relief) as she tells the tale of her post- retirement adventures in Ethiopia. After her 40 year career in libraries, Shirley went to Ethiopia with an international development charity volunteer for 2 years but ended up staying for 5 years for the adventure of a lifetime, living in two wildly different environments - first in the coffee country of South Ethiopia, and then in the Camelot of Ethiopia, Gondar. Returning to Canada, Shirley started a charity to help girls get an education in this male-focused society. Shirley will also be selling the beautiful hand-made banana art cards which benefit the charity.
