He is the winner of Canada Reads 2011 for his political satire The Best Laid Plans which also earned him the Stephen Leacock Medal. The sequel The High Road has just been shortlisted for the 2011 Leacock Medal. His experience in Canadian politics gives him insight into how human failings colour the political world.
