In the opening solo showcase that sets the tone for this striking second feature by British director Andrea Arnold, Mia busts out moves learned from Ashanti videos and YouTube clips of dance crews. Wearing the tracksuit uniform that marks her as a “hoodie” in the eyes of her social betters, she tries to master the body language of someone older and bolder than this vulnerable girl really is.
