Pranzo di ferragosto
Gianni is a middle-aged man who lives with his widowed mother in an old condominium in central Rome. Living under the tyranny of this impoverished aristocrat, his life drags on between housework and going to the bar. The day before the August bank holiday the condominium manager asks Gianni to take his own mother into the dysfunctional home, in exchange for knocking some money off the condominium debts Gianni has run up over the years. Because of his dire financial straights, Gianni is forced to accept. The manager treacherously turns up with two women, as he doesn't know where to take his aunt either. Gianni is overwhelmed by the presence of these three dominant women, but heroically does his best to make them happy. In MID-AUGUST LUNCH director Gianni Di Gregorio draws attention to the richness, vitality, and strength of the elderly, while simultaneously exploring their vulnerability in a world that moves quickly with no regard for their history and worth.
